  4.      SERIES : THE PRIEST AND HIS GARMENTS.  LESSON 2.

  6. DUTIES.
  7.  
  8. If we have been made as a nation of priests, then we need to know our duties
  9. as priests.  An understanding of the Old Testament Priesthood will show us
  10. our Spiritual duties.
  11.  
  12. 1.   Burning Incense on the golden altar in the Holy Place, morning and
  13.      evening, Ex.30:7-8.
  14.  
  15.      We have a duty to offer spiritual incense.
  16.  
  17.      Incense - prayer and praise.  Rev.5:8,8:3, Psa.141:2.
  18.      In Holy Place - in His Presence, a consciousness of His presence.
  19.      Morning and Evening - regular, consistency in our prayer and praise
  20.      regardless of what we feel.

  22. 2.   Supplying Oil daily for the Candlestick that it may burn continually.
  23.           .27:20-21.

  25.      As Priests, we have a responsibility to -
  26.  
  27.      (a)  maintain a fresh supply of oil (anointing) in our lives as
  28.           candlesticks.
  29.      (b)  minister His anointing to other lives.
  30.  
  31. 3.   Cleaning and Trimming the Lamps that the light may burn
  32.      bright (Ex.30:7).
  33.  
  34.      As Priests we must keep our own lives clean and free from dead
  35.      works, then we can be used to trim the wicks of other lives.
  36.  
  37. 4.   Eating the Shewbread in the Holy Place Lev.24:5-9.
  38.  
  39.      We as Priests are to feast on Jesus who is our Shewbread.  Only the
  40.      Priest could eat of this Bread for it was hallowed.
  41.  
  42. 5.   Keeping the fire going on the Altar in the Court Lev.6:9,11-13.
  43.      The fires of first love must be kept going in our own lives by continual
  44.      sacrifice.  If we cease from a life of sacrifice - the fire will soon go
  45.      out.

  47.      This speaks also of our ministry in keeping fires going in other lives.

  49. 6.   Cleaning ashes from Altar after the Burnt Offering (Lev.6: 10-11).
  50.  
  51.      Jesus    -  our Burnt Offering
  52.      Ashes    -  the evidence that the offering has been completed.
  53.               -  His death and resurrection.
  54.      Carrying the ashes - bearing His reproach without the camp.
  55.                  Heb.13:13.
  56.      "Ye shall be hated of all nations for His Name's Sake".

  58. 7.   Offering the Morning and Evening Sacrifice Ex.29:39-43.
  59.  
  60.      As Priests we are ordained to offer spiritual sacrifices, I Pet-2:5.
  61.      This is the spiritual sacrifice of Praise, Heb.13:15, Jer.17:26, 33:11.

  63. 8.   Continual Offering of the 5 Offerings Lev. chapters 1-6.

  65.      This speaks of other spiritual sacrifices we are to offer e.g.
  66.      Sacrifice of.....
  67.      1.   Praise, Heb.13:15.
  68.      2.   Communicate - giving of finance, Heb.13:16.
  69.      3.   Obedience, 1 Sam.15:22.
  70.      4.   Loving God and our Neighbour, Mark 12:33.
  71.      5.   Our Bodies, Rom.12:1.
  72.      6.   Joy, Psa.27:6.
  73.      7.   Lifting of the hands, Psa.141:2.
  74.      8.   Righteousness, Psa.4:5.

  76. 9.        Blessing the people following the Daily Sacrifice Num.6:23-27,
  77.           Lev.9:22.
  78.  
  79. 10.       Instructing people in the Law.  Acting as a High Court of Appeals
  80.           in difficult cases, Deut.17:8, 19:17, 21:5.

  82. 11.       Addressing Troops in times of war.  Deut.20:2.
  83.  
  84.           As Priests we are to encourage those in spiritual conflict, and
  85.           minister faith to them.
  86.  
  87. 12.       Blowing the Silver Trumpets and sounding forth the message of
  88.           Num.10:8.
  89.  
  90.           1.   Calling God's people together unto Him.
  91.           2.   Alerting the people that it is time to move.
  92.           3.   Encouraging the people to fight as we are in spiritual
  93.                warfare.
  94.           4.   Sounding out the joyful message of the Feasts.
  95.  
  96. When overtaxed with work, the Levites were called in to assist the Priests.
